Juicing!

What a touchy topic this one is! There are so many believers and non-believers with such strong opinions about it. I've always been a NON-believer in this type of 'cleanse' or 'detox' or 'torture' or whatever you call it… Then my friend Kiana, who believes in all things healthy, convinced me to try a 5-day juicing cleanse. How on earth she convinced me, I have no idea. But during my 5-day detox I went from hating her, to wanting to kill her, to thanking her. Now I try to do a 5 day juice cleanse every quarter. It's that time of the year when you are starting to think that you should have started your diet months ago, seeing that the summer holidays are fast approaching and you're picturing yourself in that bikini… (Sh*t, I should have actually used my gym membership!) Juicing is a great way to 'kick-start' your diet and it motivates you to change your eating habits in the longer run. The first time I did my 5 day juicing cleanse, i went through these moods: Day 1. I want to kill Kiana. I will never speak to her again. I hate everything. I miss food. MY HEAD HURTS. I hate Kiana. This is so stupid. I am going to eat because this is so stupid. I will just do this one day, that's enough. MY HEAD IS GOING TO EXPLODE. I miss food. I need to sleep so the day ends. Good night. Day 2. I hate Kiana. MY HEAD HURTS. This is so stupid. I will never ever do this again. Juicing is WRONG. It's bad for the body. I should eat so I am not moody to my kids. I miss food. My HEAD IS GOING TO EXPLODE. I need to sleep, good night. Day 3. I still don't like Kiana but I don't hate her. This isn't so bad. I am almost half way through. I can survive. I am going to do this! I miss food but I can manage… Is it my imagination or is my skin starting to look nicer? Good night. Day 4. Wooohoooooo this is easy! I have so much energy I think I will clear out my whole house and re-organise everything! I need to clean clean clean, I have so much energy. Maybe I should run to pick up the kids instead of driving. I feel great. I want to cook an amazing meal for my family. I'm also going to make all kinds of healthy snacks for the kids. I want to cook cook cook! Only 1 more day. Kiana, you ain't so bad! Good night! Day 5. Last day! Juicing is great!! I feel great! People keep telling me my face is glowing! My pants fit better. I want to continue to eat better even after my juicing. I have so much energy to play with my kids! Thanks Kiana!! I love Kiana! Good night, I love you all! So, basically be prepared that the first 2 days you will hate everyone and will do everything to try and talk yourself out of it. But by day 3 it's all a piece of cake! The biggest benefit of juicing is the break it gives the digestive system. Of course, the body is still digesting the juice, but the nutrients from the juice are so much more easily absorbed. The quick absorption of the vitamins and minerals, along with the additional amount of water you take in, make your cells very, very happy, thus the glow. The bonus benefit is that the energy your body normally spends on digestion is then redirected to leave you feeling super energised. Sure, many may argue you should just eat the fruit and vegetables and retain the fiber. But when was the last time you were able to eat an entire shopping bag of fruit and vegetables in a single day? By eliminating the fiber, you are able to give your body a much more concentrated delivery of the nutrients in that shopping bag. Some may argue that it's a form of food waste to throw away all that beautiful pulp. I agree. That's why my husband has convinced me to buy chickens and use it as chicken feed! And the best benefit of all? That you get a deep sleep like you're never before! That's unless you have a little girl named Soraya living with you, who loves to wake me up several times a night… But really, the quality of sleep you get is magic! Most importantly, it's not for everyone...there is no single supreme solution to better health. We do what works for us. For me this seems to work 3-4 times a year and gives me an immune system boost as we approach seasonal changes. Kiana and I will be starting our 5 day juicing detox on Sunday 19 June, who else wants to join us!? As I said, I know lots of people are believers and lots are non-believers.
